I (Amanda) was away in Hawaii for a bit of January and February and saw lots of beautiful art, including the work of Jean Charlot.

The gorgeous and inspiring work of  Roger Garcia. He has a new website!

Besides being a talented illustrator, cartoonist and artist, Roger is best known in the Edmonton community for running Doctors & Derrieres, which will be in it’s 7th year this spring.

Excerpt from his bio: Roger Garcia is a self taught freelance cartoonist / illustrator based out of Edmonton who works in acrylics, watercolors and digital medium. His illustrations and cartoons have been published in various humour books, newspapers, and educational material.

Michelle Matson does amazing things with paper.

She was a Work of Art contestant, but did not win. They don’t give last names of the artists on Bravo but I tracked down her stuff on the web. Yes, this reality show is a little cheesy. But, it’s also really inspiring to be able to watch these artists experiment with materials, concepts and collaboration under extreme timeframes. Simon de Pury’s commentary is hilarious. BE BOLD! BE BRAVE! BE AMAZING!

I’ve been teaching Corporate ID & Self  Promotion to Macewan students this Fall/Winter. We’ve been doing many different fun things, one of them being quick workbook exercises at the beginning of each class to push creative thinking. I thought I would start sharing some of them! Many of them are inspired from the book Graphic Design Thinking: Beyond Brainstorming by Ellen Lupton.
