What The Font, the stellar app from MyFonts that lets you upload an image of a typeface and (abracadabra) tells you its name, is now available for the iPhone.

Snap a photo with the built-in camera, crop the type, verify its detection of different characters, and submit! I tried it on my name plaque at work and it had no problem identifying the font as Mark Simonson’s Snicker Bold.

So, the good news is that it works. The glorious news is that the app is free! And the bad news (sort of bad, in a limiting way) is that WTF only recognizes fonts that MyFonts sells. If it can’t name your font, it suggests a similar one they do carry.

Google is hosting (and has made searchable) millions of images from the LIFE magazine archive. The collection is a still frame documentary of over 250 years, from civil war portraits to Muhammad Ali, and rare gems like Disney artists mugging for the camera.

I’ve long touted that Work = Fun, so it was a treat to trip across this poster set from English designer Anthony Burill. If positive propaganda is your thing, you can find them for sale at a wee online shoppe called Concrete Hermit.

Being nice to people is always good too.
